Buffalo, N.Y. (April 4, 2005) --- The National Lacrosse League announced today that Steve Dietrich has been named Goaltender of the Year for the 2005 season.

"This award was well deserved, stated Bandits General Manager Kurt Silcott. "I'm give the General Managers and Coaches credit for examining all the criteria for this award and rewarding the player who really did the best job between the pipes.

"Chugger had a great season. He finished the regular season ranked first in goals against and in save percentage, which are the true tests of a goaltender's performance. Interestingly if you look at his numbers against playoff teams, they are even more impressive. I'm very happy for Steve, as he often gets overlooked when people talk about the top goalies. Perhaps now, he will get his just due."

The Kitchener, Ontario native receives his first Goaltender of the Year award after leading the league during the regular season in goals against average (10.96) and save percentage (.789). He also finished tied for second in wins (9) with Knighthawk Pat O'Toole.

Buffalo's all-time franchise leader in wins (23) and saves (1879), currently ranks second in league history in saves (4063), trailing only Dallas Eliuk of Philadelphia. The 35-year old goaltender set a career-high during 2005 in save percentage and his lowest goals against average since the 1994 season when he played for the Detroit Turbos.

In 15 games this season, Dietrich made 511 saves and allowed just 137 goals - fewest allowed among all goaltenders who appeared in atleast 12 games - en route to a 9-4 record.

The voting for all player awards were submitted by Governors, General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's ten member clubs after the conclusion of the regular season and prior the start of the Champion's Cup Playoffs.
