St. John's Fog Devils forward Nicklas Bergfors has become the first player in franchise history to be drafted into the National Hockey League. Bergfors was selected by the New Jersey Devils in 1st Round (23rd Overall) in Saturday's NHL Entry Draft.
The 5'11, 291lb , Bergfors was selected by the Fog Devils on the this year's CHL Import Draft, being chosen 2nd Overall. . The 18 year old winger played in the Sodertalje system (Swedish Elite League and Under 20 League) and is considered one of the most talented Swedish players born in 1987. Bergfors was a rookie with Sodertalje in the Swedish Under-20 League last year and despite being a number of years younger than most of his opponents he was one of the best players in the League. He also represented Sweden in this year's World Junior and World Under-18 World Championships.
The St. John's Fog Devils are the newest member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and are one of 58 member clubs of the Canadian Hockey League. The franchise begins its inaugural season in September and opens its first Training Camp in Newfoundland on Tuesday, August 16.
