THE SHOCK SHUT DOWN LIBERTY

With Detroit clinging to a one-point lead, Deanna Nolan hit a jumper with 44.8 seconds left that helped secure a 72-67 win Sunday over New York. Nolan finished with a game-high 20 points, Kara Braxton added 12 points, new comer Katie Smith had 11 points, while Swin Cash combined 11 points with 12 rebounds. Becky Hammon put in a good effort for the Liberty with 18 points.

SHOCK COULDN'T BEAT THE STING

The Shock fell hard this week on the road suffering a 82-73 double-overtime loss to the Charlotte Sting on Saturday night. Sheri Sam scored 11 of her 26 points in the two overtimes, and the Charlotte Sting snapped a franchise-record 10-game losing streak. Deanna Nolan scored 20 points in 47 minutes for the Shock while Cheryl Ford added 14 points and 14 rebounds to the board.

DETROIT FELL SHORT TO HOUSTON

Sheryl Swoopes made sure the Houston Comets' home losing streak didn't reach four. Swoopes hit a 12-foot jumper with 23 seconds to play to give the Comets a 62-61 victory over the Detroit Shock and end a franchise record-tying three-game home losing streak. Deanna Nolan contributed 23 points, and 10 rebounds to the board, while Cheryl Ford added 12.

SHOCK INTRODUCE "BE YOURSELF" BRACELETS

The WNBA Detroit Shock have introduced a new initiative to benefit fitness and literacy programs in the metro Detroit area. Fans can purchase Detroit Shock "Be Yourself" bracelets at each of the Shock's four remaining home games. The WNBA Be Smart, Be Fit, Be Yourself initiative is aimed at encouraging children, teens and women of all ages to learn more about their bodies and the importance of physical fitness. The bracelets will sell for $2, with all proceeds going to the Palace Foundation for literacy purposes. Bracelets will be on sale at the Palace Locker Room Store located inside The Palace and online immediately at www.detroitshock.com . Adult and youth sizes are available.

SHOCK ALL-STARS FORD AND SMITH BRING FITNESS INTO FOCUS

Detroit Shock All-Star forward Cheryl Ford and newly acquired All-Star guard Katie Smith will participate in a "Fun and Fundamentals" basketball clinic on Wednesday, August 10 from 3-4 p.m. at Focus: HOPE Center for Children in Detroit. Palace Sports & Entertainment Director of Year Round Hoops, Aaron Smith will run the clinic. Participating in the clinic will be 135 boys and girls ages 2-12 from Focus HOPE's summer camp. Focus: HOPE Center for Children is located at 1550 Oakman Boulevard, Detroit MI 48235.
