Detroit Shock Sign Ashley Shields

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has signed free-agent guard Ashley Shields to a seven-day contract. Per team policy, details of the contract were not disclosed.

The Houston Comets selected Shields out of Southwest Tennessee Community College with the eighth overall pick in the 2007 WNBA Draft, making her the first WNBA player to be drafted out of junior college. She played in 26 games for Houston averaging 5.3 points and 1.3 rebounds in her rookie campaign.

The 5-10 guard appeared in three games for the Comets this season before she was waived on June 27.
