Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has acquired second-year guard Eshaya Murphy from the Minnesota Lynx in exchange for forward LaToya Thomas.

Murphy was drafted by Minnesota out of the University of Southern California in the second round (15th overall) of the 2007 WNBA Draft. In her rookie season, she averaged 5.2 points and 3.3 rebounds per game in 32 games. In her only two games with the Lynx in 2008, she played five minutes, tallying two points and two rebounds.

In acquiring Murphy, the Shock parted ways with five-year veteran forward LaToya Thomas. Detroit acquired Thomas from the Atlanta Dream as part of a 2008 Expansion Draft trade this off-season. The trade sent former Shock guard Ivory Latta to Atlanta in exchange for Thomas and the 18th pick in the 2008 WNBA Draft.

In seven games with the Shock this season, Thomas averaged 1.1 points and 0.7 rebounds in 5.7 minutes per game.
