GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Detroit Red Wings have assigned defenseman Alexey Marchenko to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
Detroit's ninth choice (205th overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Marchenko went scoreless in three games with the Wings during their first-round Stanley Cup Playoffs series against the Tampa Bay Lightning and picked up two points (1-1-2) in 13 regular season games with Detroit. The Moscow, Russia, native has also registered 20 points (3-17-20), 26 penalty minutes and a plus-22 rating in 51 games with Grand Rapids this season.
Now in his second season in North America, Marchenko has accumulated 38 points (6-32-38), 40 PIM and a plus-33 rating in 100 career games with the Griffins. The 6-foot-2, 212-pound blueliner has yet to make his AHL playoff debut, as he missed the conclusion of Grand Rapids' 2013-14 season due to injury.
The Griffins will continue their Western Conference Quarterfinals series against the Toronto Marlies in Game 4 at Van Andel Arena on Saturday at 7 p.m., when Grand Rapids must win to force Game 5 on Sunday at 5 p.m. on home ice.
