
Destroyers sign pair

COLUMBUS, OHIO - The Columbus Destroyers have signed free-agent wide receiver Damien Groce and defensive lineman Ken Kocher, Head Coach Doug Kay announced today.
Groce (5-10, 182, Iowa State) will be making his second appearance in a Destroyers jersey in 2007. The six-year Arena Football League veteran played the offensive specialist role for the Arizona Rattlers last season and finished second on the team in receiving as he caught 59 passes for 857 yards and 21 touchdowns in 12 games. In 2005, Groce led all Destroyers receivers with 116 grabs, gaining 1,426 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also posed to be a threat on special teams as he returned 59 kickoffs for 1,204 yards.
Groce began his AFL career with the Los Angeles Avengers in 2000 and spent two-seasons with the New York Dragons (2002-03) before joining the Carolina Cobras in 2004. He spent his collegiate career at San Bernardino Valley Community College (1996-97) before transferring to Iowa State University (1998-99). As a Cyclone, he hauled in 56 catches for 866 yards and eight touchdowns while earning Second-Team All-Big 12 honors his senior year.
Kocher (6-3, 315, UCLA) re-signs for his second year with the Destroyers. The 26-year-old defensive lineman has played in 18-games and made 18.5 tackles. He started his AFL career spending two seasons with the Los Angeles Avengers (2004-05). In 2002, he began his professional football career with the Green Bay Packers and a year later signed with the New England Patriots.
