COLUMBUS, OH - The defending National Conference champion Columbus Destroyers, presented by Germain, are set to open their fifth training camp in Columbus on Friday, Feb. 8. After capturing the first National Conference title in franchise history, the Destroyers will begin preparations for the march to ArenaBowl XXII-New Orleans at the Columbus FieldHouse (6124 Busch Blvd., Columbus, OH 43229) at 8:30 a.m.
All players and coaches will be available to the media after the second practice of the day at approximately 12:45 p.m. In addition, Head Coach Doug Kay, all coaches and all players will be available at Media Day, which is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 12 after the Destroyers scrimmage against the Chicago Rush. The scrimmage, which is open to the public, will begin at 11 a.m. on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena, with interviews and lunch to follow.
Key off-season acquisitions include: wide receivers Derek Lee, Charles Pauley, Sidney Haugabrook and C.J. Johnson; as well as former NFL receivers Eugene Baker, Rasheed Marshall and Calvin Russell. They join returnees quarterback Matt Nagy, defensive lineman Kelvin Kinney, offensive linemen Howard Duncan, Will Rabatin and Jason Hilliard. The Destroyers will look to make the AFL playoffs for the second-consecutive year for the first time in 10 seasons (Buffalo Destroyers 1999-2003).
