Quad City Mallards News Release
Davenport, Iowa (October 11, 2009) - Jean Desrochers scored at 1:27 of overtime to give the Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, a 3-2 preseason win over the Bloomington PrairieThunder Sunday afternoon at the Quad City Sports Center.
Desrochers finished off a neat give-and-go with Jacques Perreault by charging down the slot and sweeping the puck under Bloomington goaltender Ryan Ludzik to give the Mallards their second exhibition win over the PrairieThunder in less than 24 hours and send the fans who thronged to QCSC for the game home in high spirits.
Proceeds from all tickets purchased by those spectators will go to the Quad City Hockey Association's youth programs. The QCHA strives to provide a foundation for the growth and development of USA Hockey in the Quad City area. The QCHA's programs are designed to increase youth participation in the local hockey community, improve skills and provide a responsible environment for the growth of each child in their hockey experience.
Terry Harrison, who scored the only goal late in the third period of the Mallards' 1-0 victory over Bloomington Saturday night in Decatur, provided the first Quad City goal on Sunday afternoon. Harrison's superb solo rush at 7:03 of the second period evened the game at one after the PrairieThunder's Alex Nagribiarko had opened the scoring by jamming a wraparound past Mallards netminder Kyle Jones (23 saves) at 16:34 of the first period.
At 15:33 of the second period Patrick Levesque wheeled and fired the puck high into the net from the right wing circle to give the Mallards their first lead of the contest. The 2-1 advantage lasted less than two minutes before Cole Ruwe's power play goal from the blue line knotted the score once more.
A scoreless third period would serve as prelude to the dramatic finish provided by Desrochers, whose superb effort sends the Flock into this Saturday evening's regular season opener in Flint against the Generals on a winning note.
