Wichita Wings News Release

Wichita, KS-The Wichita Wings (6-11) fell 12-10 in a close match to the Milwaukee Wave (14-2) Friday night in Hartman Arena. Going down early, the Wings struggled to find a rhythm on the attack for the majority of the first half leaving them in a 6-0 deficit at halftime, but rebounded with a huge comeback in the fourth quarter led by defender Chris Lemons.

The Wings seemed in strong form defensively to begin the match against the league leading Milwaukee Wave, allowing just one goal in the first quarter. Sanaldo produced several critical saves for the Wings to keep them in the match, but could not stop Hewerton who converted on a goal giving Milwaukee their first points of the night and a 2-0 lead going into the second quarter. Luan Sales Oliveira and Nick Perera continued the action for the Wave scoring back to back goals in the second quarter, leaving the Wings down 6-0. Wichita would not be able to make good on any of their scoring opportunities and closed the quarter scoreless as halftime arrived.

Kevin Ten Eyck scored off an assist from Sanaldo early to open the third quarter for the Wings, making the score 6-2, Wave. Nick Perera and Hewerton answered back with two consecutive goals for Milwaukee, both their second goals of the night, to extend the Wave lead 10-2 going into the final quarter.

Chris Lemons ignited Wichita's comeback in the fourth quarter by scoring his first goal of the season with a left footed strike which was followed up by a goal from Freddy Moojen to bring the Wings within four points of the Wave. Chris Lemons continued the momentum by scoring his second goal of the night, cutting the Wave lead to a single goal with more than ten minutes left in regulation. A minute later, a beautiful ball from Tiguinho allowed Daniel Villegas to score his first goal of the season and the equalizer bringing the two clubs level at 10 apiece. Hewerton would break the draw and complete his hat trick with a goal to allow the Wave a 12-10 lead with just under five minutes in regulation. Although they had several chances, Wichita would not be able to finish any, ending their comeback efforts and clinching a 12-10 victory for the Wave.

The Wings will continue their push to earn a playoff spot with the second half of their weekend doubleheader tomorrow night against the Chicago Soul in Hartman Arena at 7:35 p.m. (CST) for Walgreen's White Out Night.
