Dallas Desperados News Release

The Dallas Desperados today traded quarterback Andy Kelly – along with WR/DB Jason Kaiser and OL/DL Matt Norwood – to the Detroit Fury for future considerations. Complete terms of the trade were not disclosed per league policy.

Kelly signed with Dallas last fall and led the expansion Desperados to a 7-7 record and a trip to the quarterfinal round of the Arena Football League playoffs. In the process, Kelly took over the top spot on several AFL career passing lists, including passing attempts (3,429), passing completions (2,111), passing yards (23,882) and passing touchdowns (455). He also became professional football's career passing touchdown leader, finishing the season with 472 career touchdown passes (455 in AFL, 17 in NFL Europe).

Kelly finished the 2002 season 319-of-511 for 3,285 yards, 73 touchdowns and 16 interceptions. His 511 attempts were the second most in the league and his 319 completions and 73 touchdown passes were third in the league.

Kaiser began the year with the Tampa Bay Storm but was released after the fourth week of the season following a two week stint on Reserve/Injured. He signed with Dallas June 20 and saw action in two games with the Desperados.

Norwood was selected by Dallas in the Expansion Draft and played in seven games for the Desperados. He spent three weeks during the middle of the season on Reserve/Injured with knee tendonitis.

These three players re-join Tom Luginbill in Detroit. Luginbill was the Desperados Offensive Coordinator last season, but he left Dallas to become the Fury's Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator about a month ago.

The 2003 Arena Football League season kicks off the weekend of Feb. 1-2. The 2003 season will consist of 16 regular season games – eight home games and eight road games – instead of the 14 games played in 2002. The Arena Football League is finalizing the 2003 schedule and should be releasing that information in the coming weeks.
