Desperados to hold intrasquad scrimmage

After practicing eight times in five days, the Dallas Desperados are ready to close their first week of training camp with an intrasquad scrimmage at Texas Stadium on Saturday. The controlled scrimmage will be the first chance coaches and players will have to assess the team's preseason progress.
"We'll be able to use the scrimmage to evaluate where we're at," remarks Head Coach Joe Avezzano. "We'll see how much the new guys have picked up and how sharp the veterans are. Then we'll evaluate the scrimmage tape and utilize next week to refine things we inserted this week."
The scrimmage will consist of six eight-play drives and three four-play goal line drives for a total of 60 plays. The scrimmage should take a little more than an hour and will close the club's first week of practice. The Desperados will have Sunday off before returning to practice on Monday.

The Desperados kick off the 2003 season on Feb. 2 by hosting the New York Dragons. NBC Sports â in their first season associated with the AFL â will televise the game, as well as up to 70 other AFL games throughout the season.
