Dallas Desperados News Release

Following a record setting year in the Arena Football League, Dallas Desperados quarterback Jim Kubiak has signed a contract with the Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League. After signing his contract, Kubiak joined his new teammates on the field Wednesday morning as the club goes through one of its summer mini-camps this week and next.

"Jim Kubiak is an intelligent, intense and productive quarterback who has been successful at every level he's played," said Desperados Head Coach Joe Avezzano. "He possesses the talent and qualities to play in the NFL, similar to other talented Arena football players. Given the proper opportunity by the Colts, he will help them be a better football team. The Desperados wish him nothing but great success and a wonderful future."

Kubiak, who went to training camp with the Colts in 1998 and 1999, put together one of the best seasons by a signal caller in Arena Football League history. He finished the year 388-of-557 for 4,762 yards, 97 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. His passing yardage total (4,762) established a new league record, while his completion percentage (69.7) is the highest single season completion rate in the history of the league.

He also finished the spring second in the league in attempts (557), completions (388) and touchdown passes (97) while ranking third in passer rating (122.6). All of his passing numbers established new career-highs, as well as franchise records.

Kubiak spearheaded a Desperados offense that led the league in total offensive yards-per-game (300.9) while ranking fifth in scoring average (56.9). His play helped propel Dallas to a 10-6 record, the Central Division championship and a No. 5 seed in the AFL's Drive to ArenaBowl XVII.
