Desperados COO Named AFL Executive Of The Year

July 31, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Dallas Desperados News Release

Dallas Desperados Chief Operating Officer Shy Anderson was named the Arena Football League's Executive of the Year last week at festivities surrounding Arena Bowl XXI in New Orleans. This marks the second consecutive season Anderson took home the honor.

The Desperados completed their sixth season, setting a league record for wins in a regular season, finishing 15-1 along with their second consecutive Eastern Division title. As the Desperados COO, Anderson joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2000 and immediately assumed the responsibilities of spearheading the Cowboys involvement in Arena Football.

"It was a big honor to have won this award following the 2006 season, and it is even greater to have won it a second time this year," said Anderson. "This is an award that is voted on by my peers which makes it even more special to me. It is proof that we were a successful franchise both on the field and off the field. We have an outstanding staff with quality people that add to the quality of the franchise. We have done a great job managing the salary cap which allowed us to carry a full roster through the season which led to our success. It will also allow us to bring back almost the entire team for next year and make another run at the championship."

Charged with shaping the image of the Dallas Desperados in a heavily saturated Dallas/Fort Worth sports market, Anderson used his managerial and marketing skills to help the team create its own identity. Since that time, Anderson has played an active and visible role in the club's daily operations in corporate sales, arena relations, contract negotiations and management.

"There is no question that Shy is once again worthy of this honor," said Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys Owner. "He helped put the pieces of this team together from the staff to the players and continues to be a very visible part of the growth of this team. After leading the league in wins for two consecutive seasons, Shy's vision, leadership and expectations include bringing home a championship."

For more than 14 years prior to entering the sports world, Anderson worked in the telecommunication industry and earned valuable experience as a quality team builder with telecom giant ALLTEL. Through stints in sales as Regional Vice President, Corporate Vice President of Marketing and President of the Southwest Region for ALLTEL, he helped establish functional organizations that grew the company from a strong regional player into an international force.

The Desperados finished the 2007 season 15-2, claiming the Eastern Division Championship and home field advantage throughout the playoffs before falling to the Columbus Destroyers in a National Conference Divisional Playoff Game.
