Denver's John Griggs Named Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week

GLENDALE, AZ (March 3, 2014) -The Central Hockey League announced today that Denver Cutthroats goaltender John Griggs has been named the Oakley Central Hockey League Goaltender of the Week for the period ending March 2, 2014.

Griggs was signed by the Cutthroats prior to Friday's game in Rapid City due to regular goaltender Kent Patterson's re-call to the American Hockey League. Griggs received his first action with the Fish on Saturday and he certainly made an impression stopping all 35 shots he faced in his team's 3-0 shutout win over their rivals, the Rush.
The next day, the Barrington, Illinois native was nearly perfect turning away 34 of 35 shots in Denver's 7-1 win over Rapid City. On the weekend, Griggs went 2-0 with 69 saves on 70 shots helping Denver to two huge wins that pushed them past Rapid City in the standings into a second place tie with Allen.
Griggs spent 10 days with Rapid City as an emergency back-up early this season and last year concluded his college career with the University of Alabama-Huntsville.
