Bellingham Slam News Release
BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Center Brian Dennis set a new team record with 14 blocked shots as the Bellingham Slam routed the Fresno Heatwave, 125-82, in an American Basketball Association counter at Whatcom Pavilion on Monday night.
Dennis recorded an unusual double-double - 12 blocks and 10 rebounds - while forward Mike Parker led the team offensively with a more traditional double-double of 39 points and 14 rebounds. Parker was also credited with two blocks to bring the team's total to a record 17 for the game.
Fresno never stood a chance in the game, as Bellingham opened the game with a 17-2 run in the first four minutes. The Slam led by 15 after the first quarter and by 34, 75-41, at halftime.
The Slam's biggest lead of the game was 50 points, at 108-58, when forward Michael Jones completed a three-point play to close out the third quarter.
A scoring drought by the Slam in the early stages of the fourth quarter was the only reason for the Slam not extending their lead past fifty, as the Slam's first basket didn't come until the 8:17 mark on a Kyle Dalvit hook shot.
Parker's 39 points highlighted several outstanding performances for the Slam. Guard Brandon Hartley contributed an efficient 25 points on 9-for-10 shooting from the floor, while guard Jacob Stevenson added 17. For just the fifth time this season, every Slam player scored in the game.
Forward Richard Blowe led four Fresno players in double figures with 20 points.
The same two teams battle in a rematch in the Slam's final regular season home game on Wednesday, with a 7 p.m. tip-off set for Whatcom Pavilion.
