Macon Knights News Release

MACON, Ga. – The league office of arenafootball2 announced Tuesday that Denario Smalls has been selected as the af2's Built Ford Tough Man of the Week.

Smalls earned the honor after turning in a sound defensive effort last week in the first round of the playoffs against the Augusta Stallions. Smalls made two big plays that set the tone for the night. The first came when he returned a blocked extra-point attempt for two points, putting the Knights up 23-20; the second came when he intercepted a pass on the Stallions' final drive, sealing the victory for the Knights.

Smalls finished the game with 6.5 tackles (six solo), one interception and two passes defended. This is the second league-wide award Smalls has won this season. Last week, he was named the af2's ADT Defensive Player of the Week.

The Built Ford Tough Award is a national award recognizing the player best demonstrating determination and toughness. The award honors the player who made a game-saving tackle or score-saving tackle, threw a key block on the big play, or exhibited physical sacrifice or consistent tough blocking and tackling on both sides of the ball.

The Knights are back in action at home, Saturday, August 10th 7:30 pm at the Macon Coliseum. The Knights will take on the Florida Firecats in the second round of the 2002 ArenaCup Playoffs.
