Demko, Power Play Lead Comets to Third Straight Win

Rochester, N.Y. - The Utica Comets defeated the Rochester Americans 5-1 at Blue Cross Arena Saturday night.

For the fifth straight game, the Comets scored the first goal. Darren Archibald tucked home a power play goal at the 3:42 mark of the opening period. Carter Bancks and Nikolay Goldobin picked up the assists to continue their respective point streaks. Reid Boucher made it 2-0 with a power play strike of his own with 2:35 to go in the first period. Goldobin collected the lone assist. Boucher struck again two minutes later on the man advantage to put the Comets up 3-0. Alexis D'Aoust and Archibald had the assists.

Joseph LaBate continued the dominant effort with a goal of his own on the man advantage just three and a half minutes into the second period. Jayson Megna and Philip Holm tallied the assists. Five minutes later, Guillaume Brisebois netted his first professional goal with a long wrist shot from the point. Holm and Yan-Pavel Laplante were credited with the assists.

C.J. Smith ended Thatcher Demko's shutout bid with six minutes remaining in the third period, tipping a pass from Steve Moses.

Demko finished with 40 saves. The Comets power play went 4-8, while the penalty kill was a perfect 6-6.

The Comets are back in action next Saturday night as they travel to Charlotte to take on the Checkers. Puck drop from Bojangles Coliseum is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
