
Delle Donne and Moore Named WNBA Players of the Week

NEW YORK - Elena Delle Donne of the Chicago Sky and Maya Moore of the Minnesota Lynx were named the WNBA's Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for games played Monday, Aug. 19 through Sunday, Aug. 25.
Delle Donne averaged 20.0 points and 6.3 rebounds last week, helping Chicago to a 3-0 record and its first playoff berth in the franchise's eight-year history. This is Delle Donne's fourth Player of the Week award.
After missing two games due to injury, Delle Donne returned to action on Aug. 20 and scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Sky past Washington on the road 79-73. Delle Donne also pulled down eight rebounds, tallied three assists, shot 7-for-8 from the free-throw line and hit three three-pointers. On Aug. 23 against New York, Delle Donne scored 11 points as Chicago defeated the Liberty 82-64 to clinch a playoff berth. The league's leader in free-throw percentage thus far, she went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and tied a season-high with two steals. One day later in a 67-56 win at Atlanta, Delle Donne poured in a game-high 25 points while grabbing eight rebounds and hitting two threes. The performance marked her 12th 20-plus-point game of the season.
Moore's 25.0 ppg last week were a league-high as Minnesota went 2-1 to remain atop the Western Conference. This marks her fourth career Player of the Week award, and second this season.
In an 88-75 loss in Atlanta on Aug. 20, Moore tied a game-high with 23 points, including 12 in the third quarter. She also grabbed nine rebounds and hit four three-pointers, the fifth time this season she has made four or more. To help defeat Connecticut on Aug. 22, Moore scored 17 points while dishing out five assists. She also pulled down five rebounds in the Lynx's 91-77 victory. Finally, in an 84-77 win over Indiana on Aug. 24, Moore scored a career-high 35 points on 15-for-21 from the field, including 3-for-4 from downtown. She also added eight rebounds, tied a season-high with four steals and dished out three assists. Her scoring performance marked her 12th 20-plus-point game of the season.
Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week were Atlanta's Erika de Souza, Chicago's Sylvia Fowles, Indiana's Tamika Catchings and New York's Plenette Pierson in the East, as well as Los Angeles' Candace Parker and Nneka Ogwumike, Phoenix's Diana Taurasi, San Antonio's Shenise Johnson and Tulsa's Elizabeth Cambage in the West
