Defending champs lose 2009 opener

Rochester RazorSharks News Release


Augusta, Georgia - The 2008 defending Premier Basketball League Champions, the Rochester RazorSharks opened the 2009 season at Richmond Academy in Augusta, Georgia tonight with a 127 - 116 loss to the Augusta Groove.

RazorSharks leading scorer tonight was James "Mook" Reaves with 32 points and 6 rebounds, Sammy Monroe, returning for his 2nd year with the RazorSharks had 22 points and 3 rebounds.

The Groove's leading scorer was AJ Millien with 33 points and 7 rebounds behind him was Demetrius Howard with 21 points.

The game went back and forth with the RazorSharks ahead at the end of the 1st quarter , 32-27, and up at the half 58-54. The Groove went up with 1 minute left in the 3rd quarter, 85-82 and both teams battled well into the 4th quarter. The Groove pulled away, 100 - 90 with 7:16 left in the 4th quarter and led the rest of the game.

The RazorSharks Home Opener is Saturday, January 10th against another Eastern Division opponent, the Buffalo Stampede, at the Blue Cross Arena. Tip-off is scheduled at 1:05pm.
