San Antonio Scorpions News Release
SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Tuesday, December 16, 2014) - After announcing key re-signings in the attack and midfield in recent days, the Scorpions turned their attention to the defense as Jonathan Borrajo and Stephen DeRoux will each be back with the club in 2015, announced Head Coach Alen Marcina and President/General Manager Howard Cornfield today. Terms of the players' deals were not disclosed.
"Stephen and Johnny were both big reasons why our defense set an NASL record in 2014," said Cornfield. "DeRoux was an ironman at left fullback while Borrajo showed he is a very versatile player as he started and played well in multiple positions."
San Antonio set a modern NASL record for fewest goals allowed with only 24 conceded during the 2014 regular season. DeRoux led the Scorpions in minutes played with 2,460 on the year, started all 27 games he appeared in and was named to the NASL Team of the Week twice. Borrajo appeared in 26 matches - 24 of which were starts - was named to the NASL Team of the Week once and played both right fullback and defensive midfield for the Scorpions.
DeRoux is a native of Jamaica and will be playing his third season with the Scorpions in 2015. He previously played professionally for D.C. United (MLS), the Minnesota Thunder and Montreal Impact (USL First Division), Baltimore Blast (MISL) and Puerto Rico Islanders (NASL).
Borrajo hails from Clifton, New Jersey, and his resume includes appearances with: New Jersey Rangers and Real Maryland Monarchs (USL PDL), HamKam (Norway), New York Red Bulls (MLS) and Mjøndalen IF (Norway).
The Scorpions will defend their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off in April of 2015. For information on Scorpions season tickets, call 210-495-8686 or visit sascorpions.com.
