DeCarlo & Morales Torpedo Ports

August 22, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release

Joe DeCarlo provided the power and Osmer Morales supplied the finesse as the Bakersfield Blaze moved another step closer towards their goal by beating the Stockton Ports, 5-2.

DeCarlo's 2-run homer and solo shot paved the way for the Blaze as they won the rubber-match of the 3-game series on Sunday night.

Gianfranco Wawoe and Austin Wilson each hit their seventh home runs of the season, while Osmer Morales (W, 4-5) was stingy on the mound.

The right-hander carefully carved his way through Stockton's lineup by striking out five batters and surrendering just one run in six innings of work.

With the loss, Stockton drops seven games back of the North Division leading Blaze with 13 games left in the regular season.

If the Ports had any thoughts of making the playoffs it was all but sunk by DeCarlo and the Blaze.

DeCarlo was 2-3 in the multi-home run performance with 3 RBI. His 10th home run of the season was on a 3-2 pitch thrown by Holmes with Kyle Petty at first base in the second inning.

The tape measure shot by the Bakersfield third baseman gave the visiting team a 2-1 advantage and they never looked back.

Bakersfield will enjoy a rare day off on Monday before they start their final 6-game homestand of the regular season.

The San Jose Giants will come to town Tueday before the Ports wrap things up over the weekend.

San Jose currently sits five games back in the division race, but much like Bakersfield, they control their own fate the rest of the way.

Bakersfield and San Jose will meet six times in the final two weeks of the season before the Blaze end their '16 regular season campaign with four games in Stockton.
