De Guzman Named to Canada MNT Provisional Squad for 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup

OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC midfielder Julian De Guzman has been named to the Canadian Men's National Team 35-man provisional roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, Canada Soccer announced on Wednesday.

The final roster of 23-players must come from the provisional roster and in the event of an injury or in the event a player needs to be replaced, only a player from the provisional roster can be called into fill his place.

Canada opens the Gold Cup on Wednesday, July 8 against El Salvador at StubHub Center in Carson, California, USA. They then head to Houston to take on Jamaica on July 11 before coming to Toronto to take on Costa Rica at BMO Field on July 14.

It will be the first time a Gold Cup game takes place in Canada.

Canada will assemble at the end of June in Santa Barbara, California prior to the tournament's opening game.

The top two teams from each group; as well as the two highest-seeded third-place finishers will advance to the knock-out stages.

Canada won the Gold Cup in 2000 and has since succeeded in making it to the tournament semi-finals on two other occasions (2002, 2007); and made it to the quarter-finals in 2009.

De Guzman is currently with the Canadian Men's National Team in Dominica as they commence their qualifying odyssey for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.

Canada face Dominica June 11 (7:00pm local) at Warner Park in Roseau before flying to Toronto the next day to prepare for the second leg at BMO Field in Toronto on Tuesday, June 16 (kick-off 7:30pm local).

The 35-man provisional roster includes 3 NASL players - De Guzman (Ottawa), Nana Attakora (San Antonio) and Mallan Roberts (Edmonton).
