Dayton Soars Past Steel City 12-1

(Dayton, Ohio) The Dayton Demonz came into the game fighting for first place in the final regular season standings. Steel City arrived in town coming off a 16-0 defeat at Berkshire. The visitors would leave town after suffering another defeat as Dayton peppered the Warriors goal with an unbelievable 73 shots in a 12-1 victory.

Heavily favored Dayton scored 39 seconds into the contest on a pass from Jared Hicks to Ahmed Mahfouz down low. The goal was his 33rd of the season and the Demonz led 1-0. Hicks scored himself midway through the period on an assist from Mahfouz and Dayton went up 2-0. That score held up after one period of play. The Demonz outshot the Warriors 24-7 in the initial 20 minutes.

Hicks scored his second of the night off a deflection early in the second. It was his 25th and the scoreboard read 3-0 in favor of Dayton. The floodgates began to open when Mark Rivera notched his 28th on a shot over the left shoulder of Steel City goaltender James Robbins.

Moments later, the Demonz tallied their fifth goal of the night, this one by Clinton Atkinson. Dayton had a comfy five goal cushion with 10 minutes yet to play in the period. The Warriors finally scored on Forward Timothy James' first of the year, making it 5-1. However, Rivera got it back as he netted his second of the game on a beautiful setup by Robert Dongara late in the period. The Demonz went to intermission with a comfortable 6-1 lead.

Mahfouz continued to fill the stat sheet with his second of the evening, on another assist from Hicks. The score coming from point blank range and increasing the lead to 7-1. Just seconds later, Michael Hansen scored his first of the year. Incredibly, Dayton scored four goals in a minute of action midway through the period. Lester Brown and Roger Tagoona each scored in the sequence as the game deteriorated into a runway, 10-1. It became 11-1 two minutes later, with Atkinson notching his second of the game.

Len Pelletier scored on the struggling Dayton power play, pushing it to 12-1.
