Dayton Loses Offensive Shootout

December 18, 2014 - Federal Prospects Hockey League (FPHL)
Dayton Demonz News Release

(Dayton, Ohio) Dayton faced off against the Berkshire Battalion Thursday night only three points behind the league leading Whalers. A victory would put the Demonz and the Whalers tied for first place. The Demonz lost a close battle to Berkshire the last time these opponents met at Hara arena and looked for redemption this evening.

Dayton would keep the game close but could not find enough offensive fire power to match the Battalion in this match up. Berkshire used their speed and passing skills to take home a victory in this tilt. The Demonz never built up enough steam to overcome the Battalion this evening and would lose with a score of 7-4.

The opening period started with strong defense from both teams. Shots and time spent in the attacking zone was dead even for most of the first period. Vladyslav Gavrik took advantage of a rebound opportunity and scored to give Berkshire a 1-0 lead. Eric O'Hearn had a wide open look in the slot and did not miss, scoring his first professional goal and tying the game at 1-1 for the Demonz. A speedy August Aiken flew by the defense to deliver a pass to Robert Vanwynsberghe who easily deposited the puck into the net for Dayton, ending the first with the Demonz on top 2-1.

Berkshire took charge in the 2nd period, scoring from the stick of Tyler Prendergast who was left wide open in front of the net. The ice was tilted in favor of the Battalion as they scored two more quick goals from the sticks of Martin Uhnak and Robert Morton to increase their lead to 4-2. Tristan Lysko wasted no time adding to the lead for Berkshire with a shot that just trickled into the back of the net to increase the lead to 5-2 going into the second intermission.

The Demonz started the final period with a five on three man advantage and cut into the lead with a wrist shot from Dan Morin that fooled the opposing net minder. In an attempt to regain control of the game, the Demonz pelted the Battalion's goaltender with a flurry of shots. Vadim Guskov put an end to their efforts by increasing Berkshire's lead to 6-3 with a shot low in the attacking zone. Dayton would get an answering goal off a deflection from Robert Vanwynsberghe in front of the net. Vladyslav Gavrik would score again to stop the momentum of the Demonz, ending the game with a score of 7-4 in favor of the Battalion.
