Dayton Dutch Lions News Release
DAYTON, Ohio - The Dutch Lions lost 3-0 to Sporting Kansas City Tuesday June 26 at LIVESTRONG Stadium in Kansas City, Kansas in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup quarterfinals.
Sporting KC struck in the 5th minute after Mettin Copier fouled near the line which allowed a free kick. As the ball was cleared, it landed at the foot of Seth Sinovic who had a hard shot on goal. The ball deflected off C.J. Sapong for a goal.
Dayton had few chances to counter, including Eli Garner's cross into the box in the 13th minute that remained unfinished. Then in the 16th minute Mikael McNamara threw the ball in to Nixon Dias who had a good look at goal but it went wide. Ten minutes later Garner passed from the outside to Dias in the middle who had another shot at goal.
The second half started with the Lions pushing forward. Gibson Bardsley fed the ball to Garner, who had beat the defense but he hit the ball over the keeper and the goal. After that, the Lions allowed two goals in a three minute span.
Sporting KC struck again in the 56th minute with Graham Zusi scoring and in the 59th minute, C.J. Sapong recording his second goal of the night.
Dayton will host their next home game at the Miami Valley South Stadium, Friday June 29 with the Women playing Northern Virginia Majestics at 5:30 p.m. and the Men at 8 p.m. against Orlando City. For season and individual game tickets, visit the Dutch Lions website.
