
Dayton Dutch Lions FC Win on the Road against Arizona United SC 2-1

WEST CARROLLTON, OH ...The Dayton Dutch Lions FC (2-8-2) travelled to Peoria, Arizona to play the Arizona United SC (3-5-2). The Lions came out on the offensive from the start and tested the Arizona defense and goalie throughout the game and it paid off.
The Dayton Dutch Lions FC came on strong right from the start and in the fifth minute the Lions Aaron Schoenfeld found a through ball, and shot, but it hit the post and bounced back, Schoenfeld would not miss his second attempt and the Lions took the lead. Arizona did not give up and continued to press and in the eighteenth minute Arizona's Bradley Baladez was able to put a throw-in into the box and Rodney Wallace ran forward and put it in the goal to tie up the game. In the thirty sixth minute Dayton's Schoenfeld fired a shot from distance surprising Arizona's keeper and the ball dropped into the goal for his second of the night, giving the Lions the lead once again. The first half would finish with the score Dayton Dutch Lions FC 2 and Arizona United SC 1.
The second half saw Arizona become more organized. Dayton kept applying pressure though and in the fifty second minute Dayton's Sebastian Thuriere put a ball through to Eli Garner who got around his man and shot. Arizona's keeper, was there to thwart the attempt. In the fifty fourth minute Dayton's defender Shane Smith made a run up the left side from the back and crossed, but Arizona's keeper would grab it up. In the fifty seventh minute Dayton's Cameron Vickers made a run toward the goal on the right and shot hard, but the ball went just high. Arizona came back in the sixty sixth minute and Matt Kassel crossed to the head of United's Jonathan Top, but the ball went just right. United continued to press and Wallace whipped in a ball, but after some scrambling in front of the goal, the Lions managed to clear it out. Arizona's Wallace got off another shot in the seventy seventh minute but a Dayton defender was there for the block. The Lions midfield and defense continued to compress and work hard to hold their lead. United kept coming and in the eighty ninth minute Morrison would take a free kick near the Dayton box. The shot is blocked but the ball bounces around in the box and ends up in the net. However, the goal is called back due to an Arizona player being called off side. Dayton goes on the offense and the final minutes see the ball return to Arizona's end, but no additional goals are scored. Dayton Dutch Lions FC beat Arizona United SC 2-1.
An elated Dayton Dutch Lions Coach Sid van Druenen stated "This is a great win for us. Being able to put together one of the best team performances this year after being on the road for five days is very impressive. This is a talented group of players and I hope that this win gives us the confidence to keep climbing up the standings."
The Dayton Dutch Lions (3-7-2) travel to play the Rochester Rhinos (4-3-5)) on Friday, June 20th at 7:35 pm. Dayton returns home on Sunday, June 22nd to play Orlando City SC (11-0-3) at 3:00pm at DOC stadium. For season and individual game tickets, visit the Dutch Lions website.
