Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Cedar Rapids Kernels (affiliate of the Minnesota Twins) in the fifth game of a six-game series. This series matches the two division leaders in the Midwest League.

Current and Season Series vs. Cedar Rapids: Dayton 2, Cedar Rapids 2.

Dragons in the Standings: Dayton is in first place in the MWL East Division, two and one-half games ahead of Great Lakes with six games to play in the first half season. The final day of the first half is June 23. The Dragons "magic number" is four to eliminate Great Lakes. Lake County, West Michigan, Fort Wayne, and Lansing have been eliminated.

Historical Perspective: The Dragons have earned two first half division titles in their 21 seasons, winning the first half East Division title in 2001 and again in 2007. Their last second half division title came in 2011.

Best Ever: The Dragons record of 38-22 matches the best in franchise history through the first 60 games of a season. The previous best over the first 60 games was 38-22 in 2007. The Dragons winning percentage of .633 is tied for eighth best in Minor League Baseball (120 teams).

Last Game: Friday: Cedar Rapids 3, Dragons 0. Cedar Rapids scored three unearned runs with two outs in the fourth inning to account for the only runs of the game. Justice Thompson had three of the four Dayton hits in the game. The Dragons went 0 for 7 with men in scoring position after going 6 for 13 in those situations in the win on Thursday. Dragons reliever Myles Gayman fired three scoreless innings to keep the game close.

Player Notes

Elly De La Cruz (seventh youngest position player in the league with at least 100 AB) over his last 20 games is batting .349 with six home runs and 18 RBI. De La Cruz is second in the MWL in extra base hits (30), fourth in batting average (.299), second in slugging percentage (.583), third in RBI (40), tied for fourth in home runs (12).

Allan Cerda over his last 15 games is batting .300 with six home runs and 14 RBI.

Justice Thompson over his last 23 games is batting .309 with three home runs.

Nick Quintana over his last 18 games is batting .311 with 15 RBI.
