Rochester Knighthawks News Release
*(January 27, 2017)... *The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have activated forward Dan Dawson from the hold out list. The Knighthawks' alternate captain will return to the lineup on Saturday, Jan. 28, as the Knighthawks take on the Toronto Rock at the Air Canada Centre.
"It has been a long three weeks," said Dawson, who missed two games due to personal reasons. "Sometimes when you step away from the game you realize how important it is to you. This game has been very near and dear to my heart, and every time I step onto the floor it's something I am very thankful for. I am looking forward to getting back on the floor with this team this weekend."
The Oakville, Ontario native rejoined the Knighthawks Wednesday night at practice. It was a chance for him to get the stick back in his hands and get reacclimated to the system and his teammates.
"We are so happy to have him back and his leadership because he will help us mentor the young guys," said Knighthawks assistant coach Paul Day. "He is a game breaker and we need him."
Dawson is one of the most decorated and accomplished forwards in the history of the National Lacrosse League. He currently ranks fifth all-time in league history in goals (451), assists (767) and points (1,218). Dawson is also a former league MVP and is a seven-time NLL All-Pro selection.
In Knighthawks history, Dawson is fourth all-time in assists (242) and seventh in points (347). He won back-to-back Champion's Cups with the Knighthawks from 2013-14, and captured Championship Game MVP honors in 2014.
The 16-year pro is a welcome addition to a roster that includes four rookie forwards. Dawson brings leadership and a veteran presence to the team's offense.
"Dan comes with a certain swagger, a certain confidence," said Knighthawks alternate captain Scott Campbell. "He brings such a wealth of knowledge to the dressing room. He understands the ebb and flow of the game, and reacts accordingly. I think he'll be big in calming down our locker room and helping the young guys deal with certain situations."
