Conroe, Texas -- The Dawgs are back for good at the Scrap Yard for the remainder of the 2016 season. The first of three separate series at home began tonight against the Akron Racers, with the Dawgs edging out a 1-0 win Thursday night.
Both teams were held to one hit a piece in the first two innings of play, the Racers (21-23) earned theirs off the bat of Taylor Schlopy in her first at bat up the middle in the top of the first inning. The Dawgs' (25-18) first hit came from a single in the 5-6 hole from Amanda Fama.
The third hit of the game in the top of the third from A.J. Andrews was short lived on the base path when she attempted to steal second but was thrown out by catcher Taylore Fuller from her knees. That marked the first time Andrews was caught stealing this season as she is leading the league in stolen bases, her current stolen base record is now 15-for-16.

A single to centerfield from former Kentucky Wildcat Griffin Joiner put Thomas on third. Thomas was caught in a run down at home resulting in out number two, as pinch runner Emily Messer raced from first base to replace Thomas at third base with two outs. A strikeout ended the side from Abbott to Andrews left the game scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth.
The Dawgs finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single over the head of Thomas from Fama, her second hit of the night, to score Nerissa Myers at second base who reached earlier on a hit by pitch and was moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Madison Shipman.
With two lefties in the circle for both teams it was a back and forth battle each inning but the Dawgs come away with game one at the start this series against the Racers. Abbott ended the game with seven strikeouts, along with four 1-2-3 innings. James Madison Alum, Jailyn Ford had herself a game as well, with five strikeouts. Both pitcher threw complete games.
