
Davis Goes Eight Innings For First Place Toros In 6-3 Win

Yuma, AZ - The Tucson Toros defeated the Yuma Scorpions 6-3 Wednesday to extend their lead for the first place in the GBL Southern Division. The Toros received a stellar outing by Starting Pitcher Vince Davis. The southpaw went 8 innings, allowing just 3 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks while striking out 3. Davis gave up just 1 run in his first 7 innings of work and improved to 3-2 on the season the win.
While Davis was shutting down the opposition, the Tucson offensive used a balanced attack to plate 6 runs in the first 6 innings of the game. A total of 9 different Toros had at least 1 hit and 8 different players either drove in a run or scored a run. Shortstop Ryan Priddy and Rightfielder Andre Marshall both had two hits in the contest.
Davis handed a 3 run lead over to closer Reid Price in the 9th inning. Price proceeded to lock down his 8th save of the season, recording a strikeout in a scoreless frame to lower his ERA to a miniscule 1.67.
With the win the Toros extended their lead for first place in the Southern Division over division rival St. George, .625 to .548. The Toros will look to expand that lead once again on Thursday in Yuma for the final game of the roadtrip that scheduled to start at 5:05 p.m. Tucson time.
