David Garcia Joins Rascals Coaching Staff

O'Fallon, MO. - The River City Rascals officially released their 2018 Frontier League coaching staff. The Rascals finished the 2017 season with a record of 50-46. With the Rascals playing in their 20th Anniversary season, they hope to have continued success with the returning coaching staff, as well as adding some seasoned veterans.

David Garcia is the newest addition to the Rascals coaching staff. This will be Garcia's second coaching stint with the Rascals as he spent three seasons with River City starting in the fall of 2009. Garcia served as the bench coach in 2010 for the Rascals team that won the Frontier League championship. In 2011 the Rascals tied the Frontier League record for wins (68) during the regular season before falling to the Slammers in the Frontier League Championship Series. Thirteen of the players Garcia has coached have been signed to affiliated baseball. Garcia has spent the past four years as a hitting coach for the Joliet Slammers and the Normal Cornbelters in the Frontier League.

David Garcia also serves as the head baseball coach of his alma mater, Parkland College in Champaign Illinois. This will be his fifth season as the Cobras manager. Garcia was awarded the 2016 and 2017 MWAC, Region, and District 24 Coach of the Year after guiding the Cobras to their 8th NJCAA World Series Appearance. The 2016 Cobras went 45-16 winning the MWAC and the Region 24 Tournament while the 2017 team finished 52-9-1.

As a player, Garcia played at Parkland College from 1998-2000, and In the fall of 1999, he signed to play at Northern Illinois University. Following his senior season, he signed a professional contract to play in the Frontier League for the Rockford Riverhawks. Garcia is also an Associate Scout for the LA Dodgers.

Steve Brook enters his 15th season with the River City Rascals in 2018 and his 9th as Field Manager and Director of Baseball Operations. Brook has an overall league managing record of 441 - 334 and led the Rascals to its first Frontier League Championship in 2010.

As a Rascals player, Steve finished his career in 2007 with 33 career victories, which ranks first in franchise history and third in Frontier League history. From 2004-2007, Steve compiled a pitching record of 33W - 17L, a 4.14 ERA, 448 innings pitched, 332 K's, and 102 BB's.

Josh Ludy- The former player/coach is entering his fifth overall year with the Rascals as a coach only this season. The Rascals former catcher helped lead the way offensively in 2017 hitting .288 in 95 games with 7 homeruns and 49 RBI. Ludy was a three-time Frontier League All-Star and played for two different Major League team farm systems (Phillies and Athletics), reaching as high as class A-Advanced. Since taking over as the hitting coach, the Rascals have been one of the most productive offenses in the League, leading many of the team batting stat categories during his time. Ludy was originally an eighth-round pick by the Phillies of the 2012 draft out of Baylor University where he was the Big12 player of the year his final season. Josh had a great career with the Rascals slashing .294 with 42 homeruns and 209 RBI's in his four seasons.

Alex Ferguson- Ferguson enters his third year with the Rascals serving as the Bench Coach. Prior to his work with the Rascals, Ferguson earned his master's in Sport Management from Northern State University in 2006. He has coached a variety of teams including the Santa Barbara Foresters of the California Collegiate League, Presentation College (South Dakota), Principia College (Illinois) and most recently with the Frontier Greys (Illinois) in 2015.
