Houston Dash News Release
HOUSTON - The Houston Dash acquired a combined $500,000 in funds plus one international rosters spot for the 2024 and 2025 seasons from San Diego Wave FC in a trade for forward María Sánchez, both teams announced today. The Dash will receive $300,000 in Intra-League Transfer Funds plus $200,000 in Allocation Money as part of the transaction.
Sánchez initially joined Houston on a short-term loan in 2021 and signed with the team ahead of the 2022 season. The forward signed a long-term contract in Dec. 2023 following the start of the free agency window. The 28-year-old appeared in 62 games for the Dash in all competitions and scored eight goals. She tallied 14 assists for the team and appeared in all four of Houston's games this season.
Sánchez began her professional career with the Chicago Red Stars after being selected in the second round of the 2019 NWSL College Draft. The forward spent the next two years in Mexico, playing for Chivas de Guadalajara and UANL Tigres Femenil.
The Dash begin a two-game road trip later today when they face Portland Thorns FC at Providence Park. The match will kick off at 9 p.m. CT and fans can follow the action live on ION (TV guide).
