Darryl Williams Returns to Newfoundland to Join Fog Devils

The St. John's Fog Devils announced today that Newfoundland native, Darryl Williams, has joined the Hockey Club as one of the club's Assistant Coaches for the 2005-06 season. Williams has been involved with the game at the professional and junior level for over 20 years as both a player and a coach.
The 37 year old began his coaching career in 1999 as an Assistant Coach with the Long Beach Ice Dogs (IHL) He has since been a Head Coach and Assistant Coach with Long Beach Ice Dogs (2000-2002, IHL/WCHL), Cincinnati Mighty Ducks (2002-2004, AHL) and Kansas City Outlaws (2004, UHL). He has a Head Coaching record of 91-86-3-11 and an Assistant Coaching record of 99-103-26-7-7. He most recently was Head Coach of the Kansas City Outlaws (UHL).
Williams also had an extensive professional playing career that included 2 games in the NHL with the Los Angeles Kings during the 1992-93 season. He also played 676 minor league games with in both the IHL and AHL as member of the New Haven Nighthawks (AHL), Phoenix Roadrunners (IHL) and Detroit Vipers (IHL) and accumulated 1,976 penalty minutes.
Williams brings to the Fog Devils his NHL and pro hockey experience as a player and coach. Always respectful of the game, he is known for his great attitude. The perseverance and character that he displayed during his career are some of the qualities that will be passed on to the young junior players.
The Fog Devils will open its first Training Camp in Newfoundland on Tuesday, August 16. Details of the Newfoundland Selection Camp and the Evaluation Camp will also be released at a later date.
The St. John's Fog Devils are the newest member of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and are one of 58 member clubs of the Canadian Hockey League. The franchise begins its inaugural season in September 2005.
