Darren Travis, Veteran Guard Added to Express Roster

September 23, 2011 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Jersey Express News Release

Jersey City, N.J. (Thursday, September 22, 2011) - The Jersey Express add 6'5 scoring guard Darren Travis to roster. Travis is an experienced shooting guard, who can fill it up from 3 point range. He played collegiately at Monroe College, before embarking on several overseas opportunities, and most recently playing in the Italian summer league. Darren fills the stat sheet, with 17pts, 6asts, and 7rbd averages. With shooting percentages over 45% from the field, and 43% from beyond the arc, he's able to get to the rim and finish, because you must guard him from the outside.

Darren Travis; `I would like to thank owner Marsha Blount, and coach Terry Dehere for this opportunity to play for the Jersey Express. Coming off a good summer for me and playing abroad in Italy I don't know if it has anything to do with the NBA lockout, but the contract offered to me to play this season in Italy, was not up to my standards in what I thought I was worth as a basketball player and that's where the Jersey Express stepped in. Being a Brooklyn boy, Marsha gave me the opportunity to stay local and play right in Jersey City for the Express, where I can display my abilities as a basketball player and what I know I am worth as a player and help the Express win a Championship. It is a great opportunity to still be close to my family and learn from coach Terry Dehere, who actually played my position in the NBA, and was a first round draft pick. With the experience I already have and all the insight and knowledge coach Terry will be able to give me, hopefully my stock will rise and I will get a better offer to play in Italy or Europe'.

Team Owner Marsha Blount stated; the addition of Darren Travis, gives us a tremendous wing player who can flat out score! He's a knockdown 3 point shooter, who can get to the rim, and make the right pass. Coach Dehere loves a pure shooterand he's got one! He has experience, talent, and determination'.

The Express will be playing its home games at the National Guard Jersey City Armory, located at 678 Montgomery Street, Jersey City, NJ beginning with Opening night on Saturday, November 19th @ 7pm.
