Goupil to Return this Weekend
The Danbury Whalers are proud to announce that forward #12 Alex Goupil will retun to the lineup this weekend when the Whalers are in Brooklyn and at home on Saturday against the Federals.
Initially, Goupil was not set to return until the first round of the playoffs, but all parties agreed the more Goupil the better and went ahead with it.
In 4 games in Danbury Whalers green, Alex Goupil has 5 goals and 1 assist for 6 points.
Goupil began his professional career in 2004 with the Trashers in the United Hockey League. He played two seasons for the Trashers scoring 50 goals in 136 regular season games. Over his six professional seasons (370 games) Goupil's totals are 162 goals, 154 assists, and almost a point a game average for his career.
Vote for the Player Awards
Fans it is that time of the year to vote on the Danbury Whalers team awards.
The categories this year are the William E. Barnes Most Valuable Player Award, the People's Choice Award as the most popular player, the WLAD Radio Top Forward, and the Top Defenseman.
Here is the background on the William E. Barnes Most Valuable Player Award.
As announced on Opening Night 10/29/10, the Danbury Whalers organization is proud to recognize the naming of the team's MVP Trophy as the William E. Barnes Danbury Whalers Most Valuable Player Award.
William Barnes was one of the four founders of the New England Whalers franchise in 1971, which when relocated in 1974, went on to become known as the Hartford Whalers.
Mr. Barnes was a cornerstone of the Whalers franchise heading the team's business and marketing operations for most of the 25 years of the organization's existence.
Mike Barnes, an 11-year employee of the Hartford Whalers and son of William Barnes, is part of the Danbury Whalers ownership group.
Mr. Barnes had a great philosophy on life and business. He believed in calling people by their names, looking a person in their eyes when you spoke with them, always being gracious, and having the highest ethical standards.
I was fortunate enough to have worked for Mr. Barnes for two seasons while with the Hartford Whalers in the late 80's. Many of the lessons, concepts, and strategies learned in those years are still applied today in our operation of the Danbury Whalers.
To many, Mr. Barnes will always be the MVP of the Hartford Whalers and we are honored to name this award after him.
