Danbury Whalers News Release

It's Not Over Until the Fat Lady Sings and You Get Augie's Authentic Italian Sauce

This season at all Danbury Whalers home games, fans will have a chance to take home Augie's Authentic Italian Sauce. As the clock is winding down and the Whalers are headed to victory, the visiting team and fans will be treated to a live operatic serenade. Upon completion, gift certificates for jars of Augie's Authentic Italian Sauce will be distributed.

To borrow the phrase first coined with a sports reference in 1976 by Texas Tech Sports Information Director, Ralph Morgan, "It's not over until the fat lady sings", the Danbury Whalers will incorporate this in the literal sense to the game experience.

Augie's Numero #1Restaurant & Pizza in the Germantown Plaza in Danbury since 1989 is the home to Augie's Authentic Italian Sauce, "The Sauce of All Sauces". With two styles offered, the Marinara Sauce is good with pasta but best over seafood. The Tomato Sauce is made with butter and fresh onions making it perfect for dishes like Chicken Parmigiana, Lasagna Bolognese or Spaghetti and Meatballs.

Find out why they call Augie's Authentic Italian Sauce "The Sauce of All Sauces". Click www.augiesauces.com and place your order today.

The Danbury Whalers drop the puck on their second season on Thursday, October 27th at the Danbury Ice Arena against the New Jersey Outlaws. Tickets for all games go on sale on September 10th at 12 noon.

to Hold Adult Hockey Camp

Today at the Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Connecticut, the Danbury Whalers have announced that the Danbury Whalers Hockey Club will be hosting a two-day adult hockey camp on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th. As part of the special event, the team has brought former New York Islanders player and 4-time Stanley Cup winner, Butch Goring, to instruct and coach the participants.

The camp begins on Friday at 7 pm and completes at 1:30 pm on Saturday. Danbury Whalers Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Phil Esposito and current Whalers playeres will put the participants through 8-hours of a series on of ice drills, scrimmaging, and an extended locker room session where strategy and training will be discussed.

This camp is open to both male and female hockey players and will offer a tremendous opportunity for adult hockey players of all skill levels (hockey experience is preferred) and ages to learn from seasoned professional coaches, players from the Danbury Whalers and draw upon the experiences of Goring's 16-year professional playing career in the NHL and his multiple seasons behind the bench.

Goring spent his 16 seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, New York Islanders, and Boston Bruins. With 888 points over the course of his NHL career, Goring was an integral part to the Islanders' dynasty in the early 1980s including 1981 where he won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the team's MVP in the playoffs.

Butch played in over 1100 NHL games, scored 375 goals, had 134 playoff games, and coached over 240 NHL games as the Head Coach for both the Boston Bruins and New York Islanders.

Other notes involving Butch Goring include, he wore the same hockey helmet throughout his career. This is the same helmet he started wearing when he was 12 years old. It was also stated by New York Islanders teammate Mike Bossy, that Butch Goring was the originator of the NHL tradition of growing a playoff beard.

The fee for the camp is $300 and includes a Danbury Whalers jersey, dinner on Friday night, and a ticket to a future Whalers game.

Space in the camp is limited.
