Danbury Westerners Announce 2015 Michael Seri Award Recipient: Terry Whalen

DANBURY, CT (May 17): The Danbury Westerners, the longest tenured team in the New England Collegiate Baseball League, are proud to announce that at their 21st Annual Celebrity Breakfast on June 5th at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury, CT they will be honoring Terry Whalen as the 2015 recipient of the Michael Seri Appreciation Award for perpetuating community partnerships, dedication and sportsmanship on behalf of the Danbury Westerners.

Since coming to Danbury in November 1979, Terry Whalen has been actively coaching and supporting youth sports, Babe Ruth Baseball, Pop Warner Football and city and parochial basketball and is a strong supporter of Bill Pullan and the Jimmy Fund. Terry took early retirement from the IBM World Trade Corporation in 1996 and from DC Media and Marketing in 2012; he and his wife, Skavarat, currently represent Pandolfi Properties, Inc. as independent real estate agents.

Terry served as the second General Manager in the 21 year history of the Danbury Westerners, from 2005 to 2012, signing more than 300 collegiate athletes to play for the Westerners many of whom, including Michael Olt (Chicago Cubs) and Billy Burns (Oakland A's), have gone on to play professional baseball. In 2010 and 2012 the Westerners, led by manager Jamie Shevchik and coaches Sean Fesh and Ryan Smyth, made it to the NECBL Championship game.

Terry is currently serving as President of the Danbury Exchange Club. He, his wife, Skavarat, and son, Christopher, reside in Danbury while his son, Theodore, resides in South Windsor, CT.

Past recipients of the Michael Seri award include Mr. Seri (2009), Bart Busterna (2010), Mary Ann Frede (2010), Richard Reimold (2011), Charlie Coakley (2012), Gene Eriquez (2012), Chris Arconti (2013), Bill Pullan (2013) and Chris Miller (2014).

The Annual Celebrity Breakfast welcomes the 2015 Danbury Westerners to the greater Western CT community. In addition, the Westerners are thrilled to announce that former New York Met World Series Champion Bud Harrelson will be their special speaker at the event. Reservations are required.
