Danbury EPHL Name the Team update

April 30, 2008 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL)
Danbury Mad Hatters News Release

Just eight days after the announcement of the new Danbury professional hockey team franchise, more than 800 entries have been received in the "Name the Team" contest.

"We're excited," commented majority owner Tim Kolpien. "The response has been phenomenal."

Many of the suggested names for the new Eastern Professional Hockey League team pay tribute to Danbury's historic ties to the hat industry and rail transportation. Suggestions such as Derbys, Mad Hatters, Railmen and Express have been common. Other popular suggestions have used alliteration such as Dragons, Devils, Ducks and Dynamite.

The team will be known as "Danbury" as opposed to a regional name, according to Kolpien. He said about 95 percent of the entries have come from the greater Danbury area.

Kolpien emphasized that fans can continue to submit names and that prizes, including a pair of season tickets and an authentic team jersey, will be given to entries chosen at random. Fans can participate at the team's temporary website www.danburyprohockey.com.

Initial response for season tickets has also been greater than expected, according to Kolpien. Season tickets went on sale Tuesday at the Danbury Ice Arena office and online at www.danburyprohockey.com.

The Danbury team will play 25 home games at Danbury Ice Arena as part of the 2008-09 EPHL regular season which begins Saturday, November 1, 2008.
