Danbury Mad Hatters News Release

Friday night at the Aviator Arena in Brooklyn, NY the Danbury Mad Hatters remained in playoff contention with a 4-3 overtime win against the Aces. The first period featured little offense, and set the tone for the rest of the game as a physical tussle between two heated rivals. Danbury's Drew Madeiros scored the game's first goal midway through the first period to give the Hatters a 1-0 lead heading into the second period. The Aces special teams were in full effect tonight as they were able to kill a 5-on-3 penalty in the first and kept Danbury scoreless on the power play. The Aces power play on the other hand was not to be denied, going 3-for-5 in the game including two power play goals in the second period, both off of the stick of Kyle McCullough. The Aces went into the third period with a 2-1 lead.

Jonathan Lounsbury tied things up with a wrister after taking a Drew Madeiros pass in the slot. Erik Kent then put in his 31st of the season to give the Hatters a 3-2 lead with just over 5 minutes remaining. Then with four minutes to go, Dan Hickman went into the penalty box for Danbury and the Aces special teams took advantage. Tony Resendes has turned into 'Captain Clutch' for Brooklyn in the past several weeks. Last week against Jersey, Resendes put home an overtime winner for the Aces. Tonight he scooped up a rebound after Derek MacIntyre made a spectacular save, and put the puck in the net to tie the game and send it into overtime. The one point for an overtime loss would have kept the Hatters playoff hopes alive, but they were not satisfied with one point on Friday night. Just under a minute into the extra frame, Dan Hickman found Chad Jones, and Jones found the back of the net for the OT winner.

The Aces will host the Jersey Rockhoppers on Saturday night at the Aviator Arena in Brooklyn, NY at 7:30pm. Former New York Ranger Ron Duguay will play for the Aces, and will become the second oldest player to play in a professional hockey game. Danbury will also be at home on Saturday at the Danbury Ice Arena at 7:30pm, as they take on the Hudson Valley Bears. The Hatters remain four points behind the Jersey Rockhoppers with three games to play. Danbury will travel to West Orange on Sunday to face the Rockhoppers at 5:30pm.
