Chicago Rush News Release

February 25, 2003 – Chicago Rush star Dameon Porter was named this week's ADT Defensive Player of the Week, the Arena Football League announced today.

Porter, normally the team's starting wide receiver/defensive back, was forced to play defensive specialist in Sunday's 54-53 victory over the Los Angeles Avengers due to an injury to Marvin Taylor. Porter responded by leading the Rush with five tackles and breaking up three Avenger passes.

The key moment of the game, however, came when Porter intercepted Avenger quarterback Tony Graziani's pass in the endzone with one minute remaining in the game and the Rush clinging to a one-point lead. The interception, Porter's first of the season, allowed the Rush to run out the clock and garner its first victory of the season.

"I remembered I had seen the play on film," Porter said about his interception. "I decided to take a chance, even though it could backfire. Had it been a double move, I'd have given up a touchdown. Instead, we got the win.

This week the Rush travels to Buffalo to take on the Eastern Division-leading Destroyers (3-1) Saturday, March 1, at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net Chicago and on Radio Disney, 1300 AM.

Chicago's next home game is Sunday, March 9, against the defending ArenaBowl champion San Jose SaberCats. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Allstate Arena.
