Detroit Fury News Release
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Fury of the Arena Football League are preparing to take on the Tampa Bay Storm on the road, but the game is much more than that. The game will also present the Fury the opportunity to establish themselves as the new era of Arena Football in Detroit.
Now, into their third season, the Fury are looking to capture the mystique that Arena Football had over the City of Detroit over 15 years ago. Under new coach Al Luginbill, the Fury are off to their best start in franchise history and are one win away from tying a team best four-game winning streak, and with a victory this weekend, the Fury can begin to open a door on a new era of Arena Football in Detroit.
Tampa Bay Head Coach Tim Marcum, the AFL's all-time winningest coach, began a dynasty of Arena Football in Detroit when he took the reigns of the Detroit Drive in the late 1980's and guided them to three ArenaBowl Championships in 1988, 1989 and 1992. Marcum, now in his ninth year with the Storm, is one of the pioneers of the Arena Football League, and he has won six ArenaBowls in his coaching career in the AFL.
"We have a lot of respect for him (Marcum) and his success in the AFL, but we will treating this game like any other game," said Fury Head Coach Al Luginbill. "Tampa Bay is a solid team, with a long history of success, but we will work hard this week to get another win on the road."
The Fury will be practicing at the following times, at the Shelby Soccer City in Utica, before heading to Florida on Saturday.
Wednesday, February 26 - 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Thursday, February 27 - 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Friday, February 28 - 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.
Players and coaches will be available briefly after practice, and other appointments can be made for times in the afternoon by calling the Detroit Fury at (248) 377-8704.
The Fury (3-1) are currently tied for first place in the Eastern Division and continue their run for the ArenaBowl playoffs this Sunday, March 2, 2003. The Fury have five remaining home games, and tickets for all Fury games can be purchased by calling (248) 377-0100 or logging on to www.detroitfury.com.
