D-League Summer Notebook

Published on July 14, 2005 under NBA G League (G League) News Release

GIVE MY REGARDS TO ALBUQUERQUE: Former D-League center Earl Barron may never see Albuquerque if he continues his torrid summer league pace. The Huntsville Flight, Barron's 2004-05 NBDL team, has relocated to Albuquerque, but Barron may be on his way to finding a spot on an NBA roster somewhere. Barron scored 24 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for the Miami Heat's Summer Pro League entry Wednesday at Long Beach.

NOT A FLASH: Barron's outstanding numbers on Wednesday compliment his 27 points and 12 boards on Monday. In his last two summer league games, Barron has converted 19-27 FGA (70%) and 13-14 FTA (93%).

MENGKE AND DARIUS DO VEGAS: Mengke Bateer, who D-Leagued in Huntsville last season, scored 10 and had three rebounds for the Bulls in the Reebok Vegas Summer League on Wednesday. Darius Rice, who wintered with the Florida Flame in Ft. Myers last year, made 4-of-6 FGA and scored 11 for the Mavericks.

IT'S A DATE: D-League teams in Tulsa, Fort Worth, Albuquerque and Florida released their 2004-05 schedules on Wednesday. The remaining four are expected to be released soon.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "Great things will happen here because the people of Albuquerque love basketball. And we're going to do everything right."...SW Basketball CEO David Kahn was quoted by the Albuquerque Tribune (7-13-05).
