MR. SMITH GOES TO AUSTIN: Former Anaheim head coach and Albuquerque assistant Larry Smith has been named as an assistant coach for the remainder of the season for the Austin Toros. A 26-year NBA veteran as a player and coach, Smith has 13 years of NBA assistant coaching experience, 11 with the Houston Rockets.
ALEX, I'LL TAKE BROWN FOR 14: In possibly the quickest assignment in D-League history, Cleveland guard Shannon Brown scored 14 points for Albuquerque on Friday, March 2. Recalled after that game to Cleveland, he scored 14 on Saturday in a Cavs win over Toronto.
THEY SAID IT: "It catches up to you. You can tell with the energy level, your rebounding. You're a step short on your rotations. You're a day late over screens." ... Bakersfield coach Jim Harrick told The Bismarck Tribune in regard to the Jam playing its third road game in four days at Dakota on Sunday.
