MVP: Fort Worth Flyers forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, on assignment from the Dallas Mavericks, scored 30 points, converted 11-of-13 FGA and grabbed seven rebounds on his way to being named Most Valuable Player for the inaugural Gillette D-League All-Star Game in association with 24 Hour Fitness Saturday.
SLAMMIN' GOOD WIN: Former D-Leaguer and Boston Celtics forward Gerald Green won the Sprite Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Saturday, scoring a 95 in the first round and a 91 in the final round. Green was assigned for nine games last season, averaging 11.9 points and 4.9 rebounds for Fayetteville and Florida.
MORE D-LEAGUE CONNECTIONS: Albuquerque Thunderbirds coach and former Laker great Michael Cooper and former D-Leaguer Smush Parker teamed up with WNBA sensation Temeka Johnson to form Team Los Angeles in the Haier Shooting Stars Competition.
ALSO REPRESENTING: Former D-League referees Ed Malloy and Thomas Nunez, Jr. were two of the three officials assigned to work All-Star Saturday. Malloy was promoted to the NBA from the D-League following the 2001-02 season, Nunez in 2003-04.

THEY SAID IT: "It wasn't about winning the MVP for me; it was about being with these great players and being known as one of the better players in the D-League. So I'm just glad I was part of the whole event." ... Fort Worth forward and Mavericks' assignee Pops Mensah-Bonsu said after winning MVP in D-League All-Star Game.
NO REST FOR THE WEARY: The regular season returns - and maybe a little too quickly - for five All-Stars. 14ers Pooh Jeter, Von Wafer, Elton Brown and Rick Rickert, plus Anaheim's Jawad Williams, played on Friday night, caught a flight to Vegas to play Saturday and will suit up against each other in Anaheim today at 3 p.m. PT.
