NO SHOES, NO LUGGAGE, NO PROBLEM: The Dallas Mavericks assigned rookie guard Jose Barea to the Fort Worth Flyers on Wednesday. Barea is the 16th player assigned by an NBA team to its D-League affiliate this season. Barea arrived in Sioux Falls minus his lost luggage, took a quick trip to Empire Mall for basketball shoes, and promptly scored 21 points and dished out eight assists in 28 minutes.
OVER 50: Five of the eight teams that played in Wednesday's Showcase games converted over 50-percent from the floor, led by Colorado's 59-percent (46-78) in the event finale. Anaheim made 54-percent (42-77) in the second game of the day, while Dakota, Fort Worth and Sioux Falls all made at least half of their field goal tries.
BEST FOR LAST: Dakota forward Quemont Greer posted the best scoring night of the Showcase in the final game of the event, putting up 40 in a losing cause against Colorado. The current D-LEAGUE.com Performer of the Week came up just nine points shy of the league record.
WIZARD TO WARRIOR: The Golden State Warriors signed Dakota guard Renaldo Major to a 10-day contract Wednesday, making him the fifth GATORADE Call-Up of the season.
THEY SAID IT: "It's almost like a trade show. It's a basketball trade show." ... Sioux Falls vice president and general manager Jeremy DeCurtins told the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader when describing the D-League MLK Showcase.

REAL SUPERSTARS: Showcase watchers were treated to good basketball played by the best players in the world not playing in the NBA, but the true superstars of the three-day event manned the scorers table - keeping stats, running clocks, scoring the games - never flinching and getting it right through 12 games over a 60-hour span. By name, in no particular order, a huge tip of the D-League cap to Jason Brakke, Tim Hoover, Tim Josephson, Jason Lueth, Josh Nunn, Tim Fiegen, Jason Klein, Dan Stroh, Austin Parks, Michael Hight and James Narlin. And finally, to game recap writer extraordinaire times 12, Amil Anderson. Thanks doesn't say it well enough.
