
D.C. United's 'Copa D.c. IX' Sold Out

Washington, D.C. (November 5, 2009) -- D.C. United announced today 'Copa D.C. IX,' the yearly 6v6 indoor tournament hosted by the club and presented by Volkswagen, is sold out. The opening rounds of the tournament will kickoff on Saturday, November 7, between 1-9 p.m. at the Rockville SportsPlex. On Sunday, November 8, the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will take place starting at 8 a.m., with the championship game scheduled for noon. The event is free to the public.
The drawing was held Thursday, October 29 at the VW Lounge in RFK Stadium. All teams were invited for food and drink courtesy of Papa John's, Pepsi and Budweiser. The drawing resulted in the following groups: Group A- International Soccer Club, Aegean Hawks FC, Simorgh Athletics and Furia Chalaca; Group B- Venefut, Citron Sport Boys, MSA Spirit and eight-time consecutive champion La Mara; Group C- Atletico Virginia, Cochabamba, Charm City FC, and LFC; and Group D- LFFP, Colombia FC, Aguila and MISL.
The champion of 'Copa D.C. IX' will receive a check for $3,000, a trophy and 12 first place medals. The runner-up will receive a check for $1,500 and second place medals, the third place team a $1,000 check and third place medals, while the fourth place team will receive a $399 check and fourth place medals.
