
Cynthia Cooper Officially Signed with Houston Stealth

The six teams of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) are quickly filling their rosters, and the Houston Stealth are no different. On Saturday, December 6, 2003, the league held their draft, and Houston secured Cynthia Cooper with their first round pick. Cynthia Cooper then signed to play the 2004 NWBL Season with the Houston Stealth.
The Stealth held a draft party downtown at Drexler's Bar-B-Que where the jersey of future Hall-of-famer Cynthia Cooper already hangs on the wall. Mercy Okorie and Tiffany Andrews were also on hand to chat with the fans and watch the draft on Saturday.
Items were given away such as jerseys and warm-ups from last year's team. The new uniforms were unveiled as Cynthia Cooper became the Stealth's first pick.
The Houston Stealth also selected Danielle Cockrum from Baylor â03, Beth Record from Syracuse '01), Alisha Thompson from Texas Tech, Melissa Abraham from University of Memphis ('02), and Mercy Okorie from (Southwest Texas '03).
Those on hand, including Booster Club Chairman, Marta Le Diaz, commented "The draft party was a great opportunity to promote the Houston Stealth and women's basketball".
Other notable first round picks included the Tennessee Fury's Cheryl Ford (LA Tech '03) and the Colorado Chill's Ruth Riley (Notre Dame '01).
