Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
Wheeling, WV- The Cincinnati Cyclones took down the Wheeling Nailers by a score of 4-0 in preseason action on Thursday night. Forwards Joe Manno, Jordan Sims, Greg Betzold, and Dylan Nowakowski tallied the goals for the Cyclones, while goaltender Joel Rumpel stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the shutout.
The Cyclones wasted little time finding the back of the net in this one, as just 2:41 into the opening frame Manno took possession of the puck off of a face-off and walked towards the net unopposed, and he fired a wrister over the shoulder of Wheeling netminder Michael Doan to give the Cyclones a 1-0 lead.
That 1-0 lead held up throughout the remainder first, and in the second Cincinnati's special teams got into the mix, as a scramble in front of the net off of a shot from defenseman Craig Dalrymple resulted in Sims finding a loose puck and burying it past new Nailers netminder Spencer Bacon to send the Cyclones to a 2-0 advantage, 11:06 into the second.
Cincinnati took their 2-0 lead into the locker room after two periods, and when they came back for the third the Cyclones continued their forward motion when Betzold brought the puck over the offensive blue line, split the defense and snapped a shot by Bacon to push the Cyclones to a 3-0 lead, midway through the frame.
The Cyclones rounded out their night roughly six minutes later when forward Christian Powers sent a pass to Nowakowski who flew in over the line on a breakaway and launched a shot past Bacon to seal the 4-0 win.
The Cyclones and Nailers wrap up their preseason home-and-home series on Friday night in Cincinnati. The face-off is slated for 7:35 at U.S. Bank Arena.
The countdown to the 2016-17 First Face-Off is underway!
