SAN JOSE (May 9, 2003) – The San Jose CyberRays announced today that the women's professional soccer team has raised more than $43,000 for charity in the names of Lark and Roger Chastain, late parents of team captain Brandi Chastain.

The announcement comes on the eve of the Lark and Roger Chastain Celebration Game, a WUSA regular season match between the CyberRays and Carolina Courage at 7 p.m. Saturday in Spartan Stadium. The game was given the special designation to honor the Chastains by benefiting causes that reflect the family values and priorities they promoted as parents.

The $43,460 will benefit the Children's Cancer Research Fund, Silicon Valley Children's Hospital Foundation and Soccer for Hope, which aids children with life-threatening diseases. It was raised from public donations solicited by the CyberRays in the Chastains' names, a boys and girls' soccer clinic to be held preceding Saturday's game, celebrity halftime activities and donations from the following group and corporate sponsors:

Applied Materials
Hewlett-Packard Company
Hyundai Motor America
KB Homes
Oakland A's Community Fund
San Francisco Giants Community Fund
Santana Row
Stonyfield Farm Yogurt
Wender Weis Foundation for Children
The CyberRays and Spartan Stadium staffs

Kaitlyn Langstaff, a 9-year-old Saratoga girl who lost her ability to see, speak or eat as the result of Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis, will be honorary captain for Saturday's game. Miggs, a San Francisco rock band, will perform original music in the Fan Zone before the game including I Am the Same Inside, based on Kaitlyn's poem about her desire to be a normal child. Memorial resolutions from the cities of Saratoga and San Jose, Santa Clara County and the state of California will be presented to Brandi and Chad Chastain in post-game ceremonies.
